Personality:
Makenshi, by nature, is quite reserved. He doesn't open up to just anyone, and it would take someone with his trust for that. Because of past events, he doesn't lay his trust into just anyone either; people need to prove themselves to him. Despite this, he does like having people he can call friends, and people he can care about, since he has been somewhat alone since his world was destroyed and consumed by Chaos. He is incredibly loyal and will stand by anyone he cares about, and having an Unlimited like Makenshi on your side could prove to be somewhat invaluable. For the most part, Makenshi is polite and well-mannered when speaking to people, bordering on friendly, but is sometimes held back because of his own lack of knowledge on how to be social.
On the flip side, Makenshi will not stand for evil. It was the evil force, Chaos, that destroyed his home world, which was his whole reason for seeking revenge in the first place. He will do anything and everything in his power to stop other worlds from being destroyed by such things and to put an end to it. He wouldn't wish the pain he experienced at the loss of his brother and home world on anyone else. Makenshi will stand up for what he believes is right, and is rather reckless and brutal in doing so. Despite being pleasant for the most part, Makenshi can quickly shift to being cold and brutal in his actions, particularly in battle, unless he does not wish to fight his opponent, in which case he will hesitate and be torn by his emotions.
History:
Makenshi's past is a slightly sad one. He was born as Prince of Misteria, and he had an older brother Akai Kiri (Madoushi), who he learned his swordsmanship from. He and his brother were also each other's only friends growing up. However, Makenshi ended up excelling his brother in their swordsmanship and it ended up driving a wedge between them. When Chaos attacked his home world, Makenshi retreated to Winderia, where he rescued Aura, an injured girl whose beauty he appreciated. This was also the first meeting between Makenshi and Kaze. Aiding Kaze, Makenshi turned into a Mist Dragon and battled the Chaos Gun-Dragon over Sadoshima, Japan on Earth. In the end, Makenshi placed Kaze in sleep, and joined the Earl of Tyrant's side, so that he could learn more about Chaos. He sought to find it's weakness in order to restore the world to a place of peace.
In the anime series, it is not clear at first which side Makenshi is really on. He serves the Earl for the first section, and the majority of the second, he is later revealed to have been faking his loyalty to the Earl in order to discover Chaos' true goals and weakness. The second time that Makenshi and Kaze meet, Kaze has been resting with the Comodeen. At first, Makenshi was hesitant to attack, but after it was revealed that Kaze has lost all his memories, he doesn't hesitate any longer. Makenshi is encountered again by Kaze and the main party when he is fighting Fungus in Fungus' home world. Crux spreads mould through Fungus' world, to stop him from regenerating, while Makenshi confronts Kaze and spurs him to fight again.
Later, after the Comodeen's submarine is trapped in the Ocean Puzzle, Oscha revives Makenshi's brother, Madoushi, and sets them both up to fight. Madoushi attacks the submarine, causing for Makenshi to appear and face his sibling. Makenshi is shown to be reluctant to fight his brother, even avoiding a few attacks thrown at him. In the end, it's clear that his brother will not back down, so Makenshi reluctantly decides to fight. Makenshi is still superior to his brother in skill, and defeats him, allowing him to rest in peace once more. However, the demon swordsman is shown to have a tear fall from his eyes as he clutches onto his brother's cape - the only part of him left behind.
In the build up to the climax, it is Makenshi that destroys the Ocean Puzzle by turning Pist into mist, trapping him in a bottle, due to his liquid nature, and uses the mist made by Pist to summon a dragon to destroy the puzzle. Makenshi then also makes an attempt to convince the Comodeen to flee from Chaos, as he believes that he can no longer be stopped, but his attempt is unsuccessful. Makenshi's true loyalties are revealed at the end, as he is trapped alongside Kaze, Lisa and the twins, Ai and Yu. Using telekinesis with his sword, he aims to attack the Earl, but the sword is intercepted by a tentacle, and thrown back at him, going right through his chest. However, he is not dead like the others believe. He appears free from his bonds a short time later, floating in mid-air, and he turns himself to mist, and summons a dragon made from his own mist to bind the Earl and Chaos while Kaze tries to destroy him, just like the first time they tried to destroy Chaos.
His fate at the end is left ambiguous, but it is revealed that he is indeed still alive in the sequel. Makenshi and Crux appear on Earth, joining the main party and helping Lisa protect the twins from Soljashy. By this time, Makenshi has also gained the power of his brother's red mist. Crux also gained the ability to transform into the Cross Sword, which Makenshi uses alongside his own blade. During the final fight, Makenshi reveals that his goal was not order like it was for the others on his side, but a world where people can express themselves freely without any fear of Chaos or Omega. He accompanies Kaze into the gateway to finish the fight with Chaos once and for all.
Weapons:
Maken - literally meaning "magic sword". The purple gem at the bottom of the blade is directly linked to Makenshi's life-force. It cracks, he could be in trouble. The sword is slim, but can expand to make the blade wider if necessary. It has been seen to possess great power. It is seen deflecting projectiles of, not only the Comodeen, but also Kaze's hand gun. Makenshi seems to be able to control the sword with some form of telekinesis, as seen when he used his ability in an attempt to destroy Chaos's machine designed to merge Omega and the Hayakawa twins into himself. He uses the sword to slice his mist bottles and summon his mist dragons, which appear to be similar in power to Kaze's summons.
Mist - Makenshi's main source of power. His very breath is mist, as with the rest of his race, which is why he wears the mask to filter it when he isn't fighting. Makenshi breathes out mist, and it quickly fills the area around him, slowing down his enemies movements very successfully and also can put them to sleep if he wishes it to, and can also cause explosions on his command, if needed. The bottles on his belt hold mist which he uses in his attacks. Each mist is unique to the person or creature it came from, and so have different effects and make different attacks. Throwing the bottle in the air, Makenshi uses his sword to break it, before summoning a Mist Dragon with the mist in the bottle which will then attack the enemy.
Crux - a small humanoid, robotic fairy. After the novel, the sequel to the anime series, Crux can turn into another sword for Makenshi to weild, which he dual-wields with his Maken.
Unlimited - Makenshi is an Unlimited (as well as being a Misterian), which is a mysterious race of powerful beings. Only a few things are known about them. If an Unlimited is killed by anyone or anything other than a fellow Unlimited (like Chaos or Omega in the series), they will revive. The Unlimiteds possess a vast amount of destructive power; enough to rival the above mentioned Chaos and Omega. And lastly, Unlimiteds seem largely unaffected by mental manipulation and other ailments.

Summons:
Mist Dragons - The creatures summoned by the mist Makenshi uses in battle. They appear more like dragons in Eastern mythology, with no legs and only a long tail. They are pure white in colour, and have a pointed face, shaped like the end of Maken, Makenshi's sword. Each mist dragon that is summoned is as powerful and destructive as any other mist dragon, except their attacks vary depending on what attack Makenshi plans on using.
Shield - It is seen multiple times during the series that Makenshi is able to put up an invisible shield around himself. The shield is very powerful and can withstand almost any attacks, including gunshots from fellow Unlimited, Kaze.

This place is…strange. The thought occurred to Amalthea for the hundredth time, and she didn’t think that it would be going away any time soon, either. The whole island seemed completely foreign to her. There was no sense of familiarity with anything that she had seen so far. The only thing that seemed even slightly familiar was the ocean, and even then, something about it made her feel a little uneasy. She couldn’t place it. It wasn’t fear, that much she could tell. But it was as though something about the ocean - or just an ocean - seemed familiar. Perhaps something in the past that she couldn’t remember had something to do with an ocean? It certainly seemed to be a possibility, at least. Maybe she would come across more things like this as she looked around the island.
Even so, she didn’t think that she had time for exploring today. No, she was starting that job at the stables at Critter House. In truth, she was nervous. Very nervous, in fact. It was only natural, she guessed, since she was new here and had spoken to very few people. That, and not holding any of her memories… It would make anyone uncomfortable. However, Amalthea was trying to look on the bright side of things. At least a few things seemed familiar to her, even if she couldn’t place where from. That had to stand for something, did it not? The memories were just out of her reach, but something seemed to be lingering, at the very least.
She had been told earlier where she could find the Critter House on the island, and that was where she was currently headed. The sights that the island presented along the way were all very intriguing, and her gaze couldn’t seem to stay on the same spot for more than a few seconds at a time. It was all so colour and vibrant, and full of life. The people, the buildings, just the way everything on the island looked. But, that was why it all felt so foreign to her. It didn’t seem familiar. Maybe she was from somewhere else? If so, then how had she gotten here in the first place? So many questions; and ones that she would probably never get answers to. Unless by some miracle everything came back to her, that is. She was a believer in that perhaps the memories would gradually come back over time, piece by piece, but not all at once, or any time soon.
Before she really knew it, the Critter House was in view. However, Amalthea went straight by and to the stables. She could hear the horses before she could see them, and for an unknown reason, she already felt like she was going to like it here. The scents, the sounds; everything seemed comforting and not all that foreign, unlike the rest of the island. Exotic landscapes didn’t seem to be her thing at all, really. The stables had been where she had most wanted to go, the library was next on her list, whenever she got around to it. As her light blue eyes caught sight of the horses, a gentle and warm smile tugged at her lips. Still approaching somewhat slowly now, she went up to the stable door of the nearest horse, a gentle golden palamino mare, and raised a hand, to gently pet the mare’s neck. There’s that familiarity again…
